Elephant Crossing....

This page is dedicated to our elephant collection that was started over 30 years ago before Harold and I had even met. He had received an elephant from India and one from Africa as gifts. On our first trip to Europe in 1975 we decided we would add to those two!! The number of elephants is now probably exceeds 300, including everything from T-shirts to teapots. I intend to use this webpage to share with others and to document our collection.

Had to start with this elephant. It is the second elephant given to Harold before I even knew him. A girlfriend of his brother Carl named Cheryl brought this back from an African Safari. The elephant is carved from wood and stands 3 3/4" in height.
This elephant was purchased on our trip to Hawaii in the early 1980's. He is our 29th elephant. The elephant is made of wood and holds a small votive cup for a candle. It is 4 1/2" tall.
Our son Michael attended Southern Illinois University after high school in 1987. We purchased this wooden puzzle elephant during one of our visits to Carbondale, Illinois. The tip of his trunk is 5 inches and it is the 34th elephant in our collection.
This is elephant number 36 and is my most embarrassing elephant. At first I forgot who gave it to me. Then one night in front of my friend Marge I said I did not remember who gave it to me. Needless to say, I will never forget again. This elephant stands about 4 1/2" and is made of tiny sea shells.
This soft little elephant is only 3 1/2" tall, but he makes up for his height with his voice! Squeeze him and he sounds off like an elephant. He was given to us by our then future daughter-in-law Colleen in 1998.
This sign is the source of the name for this page. This warning sign was purchased on our visit to Wall Drug in South Dakota. It is on the wall in the basement as you come into the room that contains most of our elephants.
