If you like to use more than one browser, or if you have two or more computers networked together, you know that bookmarks can be a real problem. How do you get all browsers/computers to see the same bookamrks? Here is my solution.

I made a web page that consists of nothing but my favorite links. I saved this file as c:\homepage.html. I use Notepad to edit it.

I have posted here a file called "homepage.html". Right click on it and save it to your hard drive as "c:\homepage.html". Homepage.html

To use your new web page, open it by choosing "File", then browse to C:\ and open it. If you use Internet Explorer, choose "Tools", then "Internet Options" and finally "Use Current". With Netscape, choose "Edit", then "Preferences", then "Use Current Page". Now whenever you click on the Home icon in your browser, you'll see this page saved on your hard drive.

If you want to make a shortcut to edit your new homepage, right click on an empty spot on the desktop. Choose "New", then "Shortcut". For a command line, type or paste this in: notepad c:\homepage.html

You can add this to your "Start" button by clicking on the new shortcut once with the right button, holding that button down as you drag it to the Start button.

The description goes between the angled brackets. I type this in by hand. I paste the actual link in by doing this: Go to the page you want to add. click the address in it's little window once, it should turn blue. Once it does, hold down the "Control" key and press the "Insert" key. This puts the link in your clipboard. Now when you want to paste it into your homepage file, just place the cursor between the two sets of quote marks. Hold down the "Shift" key and press the "Insert" key again. It's easier that it sounds, trust me.

If you have networked computers set up, just change the command line to point to the file you've made. On my second computer, the C: drive in this computer is mapped as J; I use the command line notepad j:\homepage.html. This way you can instantly and effortlessly access and edit your homepage from the other computers, too.

After you get all of this set up, it's really quick and easy to use. Just hit the Home button on any browser and any computer in your network and you see your favorite links.
