Traditional Tomb of Jacob/Israel in the Cave of Machpelah in Hebron. Below
right: Traditional Tomb of Joseph in Shechem, headquarters for the tribal
reserve for the descendants of Joseph's son Ephriam.
Left: Plan of the tomb of an important official
-- probably of Semitic origin -- at Tell el-Dab'a (ancient Ramses), Egypt. Inside the tomb were remnants of a larger-than-life statue of the owner of the tomb. The tomb had been entered in antiquity and the remains of the occupant removed. The tomb is in the right place and dates to the right time period to be the tomb of Joseph, whose remains were taken out of Egypt by Moses (Ex 13:19).
For more details about this tomb and the statue within
it -- and the evidence supporting the supposition that it may be Joseph's tomb
-- see
